Agave paper is made from the fibres of the agave plant, which grows in Thailand, among other places. This fast-growing plant requires little water and is a sustainable alternative to traditional paper, as no trees are felled to produce it. The strong agave fibres give the paper a distinctive, natural look.
For this paper, the agave fibres are combined with mulberry fibres, which provides extra strength and flexibility. After harvesting, the leaves are crushed to release the fibres, carefully washed and then mixed into a pulp. The sheets are then scooped by hand, resulting in a paper full of character.
